MAKE A DIFFERENCE Career Scholarship Fund
The MAKE A DIFFERENCE Career Fund was established by Joanna Myers in 2010 to assist adult learners wishing to pursue higher education or career advancement opportunities, but might not be able to do so without financial assistance. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for college, advanced or technical training to adults to further their education in order to gain new skills, become more proficient in existing skills, advance in their field of employment, or seek a degree. Non-degree seeking students must be pursuing vocational or career related certifications through an accredited educational or instructional program.
This fund will target those individuals whose financial needs significantly inhibit the pursuit of their goals. The grant may be for tuition, required books and fees, or room and board. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed secondary education, defined as either graduation from high school with a diploma or completion of a GED. However, exceptions may be made by the scholarship committee.
Although this is a one-time scholarship, current recipients may reapply with priority consideration given to current recipients as long as criteria for selection continue to be met.
Applicants must (1) have a demonstrated financial need, (2) reside in the Seymour Community Schools district, (3) have documentation of enrollment or meet eligibility requirements for the certificate or degree program of their choice, (4) have a high level of motivation and determination to attain educational goals, and (5) provide two letters of recommendation from non-family members who can give information relative to character, motivation, goals, financial need, community or church involvement, and work history, if relevant. Although not a requirement, Christian or community service will be looked upon with favor in the selection process.
