MAKE A DIFFERENCE Career Fund

The MAKE A DIFFERENCE Career Fund was established by an anonymous donor who is passionate about assisting adult learners who wish to pursue higher education or career advancement opportunities, but might not be able to do so without financial assistance. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for college, advanced or technical training to adults to further their education in order to gain new skills, become more proficient in existing skills, advance in their field of employment, or seek a degree. Non-degree seeking students must be pursuing vocational or career related certifications through an accredited educational or instructional program.

This fund will target those individuals whose financial needs (or circumstances of hardship) significantly inhibit the pursuit of their goals. The grant may be for tuition, required books and fees, or room and board. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed secondary education, defined as either graduation from high school with a diploma or completion of a GED. However, exceptions may be made by the Scholarship Committee.

Although this is a one-time scholarship, current recipients may reapply with priority consideration given to current recipients as long as criteria for selection continue to be met. Recipients shall meet renewal requirements as established by the Greater Seymour Trust Fund and the MAKE A DIFFERENCE Career Fund.

Applicants must (1) have a demonstrated a significant financial need, (2) reside in the Seymour Community Schools district, (3) have documentation of enrollment or meet eligibility requirements for the certificate or degree program of their choice, (4) have a high level of motivation and determination to attain educational goals, and (5) provide two letters of recommendation from non-family members who can give information relative to character, motivation, goals, financial need, community or church involvement, and work history, if relevant. Although not a requirement, Christian or community service will be looked upon with favor in the selection process.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE Scholarship Fund

The MAKE A DIFFERENCE Scholarship Fund was established by an anonymous donor who is passionate about assisting financially needy students who wish to pursue higher education when circumstances of significant hardship, financial or otherwise, might make achievement of such a goal unlikely. The donor hopes grants will truly make a difference in enabling recipients to achieve independence and skills necessary to have a comfortable standard of living and security.

Grants may be used for tuition, fees, books, and room and board at the student's school of choice (college, vocational or technical school, seminary, etc.). The scholarship may be automatically renewable for up to four years according to provisions and renewal requirements of the Greater Seymour Trust Fund and the MAKE A DIFFERENCE Scholarship Fund.

Applicants must (1) be under the age of 20, (2) demonstrate significant financial hardship, (3) reside in the Seymour Community Schools district, (4) have documentation of enrollment or meet eligibility requirements for the certificate or degree program sought, (5) have a high level of motivation, determination and willingness to sacrifice in order to achieve their educational goals, and (6) provide two letters of recommendation from non-family members who can give information relative to moral character and other above mentioned criteria. Past academic performance and scores on any higher education examinations such as the ACT or SAT will be considered, as well as involvement and leadership in extracurricular, Christian, or community activities.
